Day 18

Read: Haggai 1:1-6

Key Verses:

“In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, 2 “Thus speaks the LORD of hosts, saying: ‘This people says, “The time has not come, the time that the LORD’s house should be built.” 3 Then the word of the LORD came by Haggai the prophet, saying, 4 “Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?” 5 Now therefore, thus says the LORD of hosts: “Consider your ways!”
Haggai 1:1-6 (NKJV)

Key Reflection:
vv. 1-5 We, as Christians are being selfish and egotistical and not of God, when we seek to take care of our own interests and conveniences before carrying on God’s work in His church and in the community. If we desired true joy and real comfort, we would make God our friend by putting His interests first, otherwise such as we have will be fruitless, meaningless, and in the end worthless for none of it can be taken with us.

It is purported that DL Moody once stated, “I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and everything that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts. But if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and the world, there is no room for the Spirit of God. We must be emptied before we can be filled.”

Pray to God about where He would have you to serve and all life decisions that should be made.

How does God describe Himself in verse 1:2? What does this mean?

How does the message of Haggai 1:4 differ from the one in Haggai 1:2?
