“Yet from the days of your fathers You have gone away from My ordinances And have not kept them. Return to Me, and I will return to you,” Says the LORD of hosts. “But you said, ‘In what way shall we return?” “ Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the LORD of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it,” Malachi 3:7; 10 (NKJV)
vv.7, 10 Verse seven warns those who deny God His part of their estates may justly expect a curse upon their own part of them. Further declaring that those who rob God rob themselves of His benefits and protection. In view of the fact that Christ is coming back, we should see to it that our accounts with God are balanced. Verse 10 merely lays out God’s challenge to us and God’s guarantee!
Givers can be divided into three types: the flint, the sponge, and the honeycomb. Some givers are like a piece of flint—to get anything out of it you must hammer it, and even then, you only get chips and sparks. Others are like a sponge—to get anything out of a sponge you must squeeze it and squeeze it hard. But others are like a honeycomb—which just overflows with its own sweetness. That is how God gives to us, and it is how we should give in turn, (Green, 2000, p. 160).
Father, help us to realize that You give us everything and only require a 10th (tithe) back from us. Help us to be obedient to Your challenge as we walk by faith.
What needs to happen for you to accept God’s word about giving, and be obedient? Why not accept His challenge; what do you have to lose?
