Day 12

Read: Zechariah 7:8-14

Key Verses:

“Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘Execute true justice, Show [a]mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. 10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart Against his brother.’ “13 Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so they called out and I would not listen,” says the LORD of hosts,” Zechariah 7: 9-10; 13 (NKJV)

Key Reflection:
vv. 9-10; 13 When we offer up our requests to God, it must be with readiness to receive instructions from Him.  God is not made men’s debtor by fasts which are not observed with self-examination and a purpose to put away their sins.  There are consequences for our lack of sincere repentance. (Brooks, 2001, p. 207).

Thought:
In his book I Surrender, Patrick Morley writes that the church’s integrity problem is in the misconception “that we can add Christ to our lives, but not subtract sin. It is a change in belief without a change in behavior.” He goes on to say, “It is a revival without reformation, without repentance,” (Quoted in John The Baptizer, Bible Study Guide by C. Swindoll, p. 16).

Prayer:
Father, your word says that you will forgive us as we sincerely forgive others and ourselves for trespasses.  Help us to be truly sorrowful for our offense and help us to preface in our hearts to not trespass again.

Questions:
What does God’s word tell us about true repentance?

What does it mean to you to have a heart of true repentance?

How can you obtain a heart of true repentance?

Are you willing to make the sacrifice to have a heart of true repentance?
