Day 9

Read: Nehemiah 8:1-9

Key Verse:

“Now all the people gathered together as one man in the open square that was in front of the Water Gate; and they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded Israel,” Nehemiah 8:1 (NKJV)

Key Reflection:
v. 1 What is imperative here is that the people gathered together on one accord and told Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the Law of Moses, which the Lord had commanded Israel to read and understand!  Reading the Scripture in religious assemblies is an ordinance of God whereby He is honored, and the church is edified. Further, it should be delivered distinctly, for it is a requirement that those who hear the Word should understand it, else it is to them as an empty sound of words.

Thought:
Barclay quotes William Temple, the renowned Archbishop of Canterbury, as defining worship as quickening the conscience by the holiness of God, feeding the mind with the truth of God, purging the imagination by the beauty of God, opening the heart to the love of God, and devoting the will to the purpose of God, (Vol. 2, p. 117. R. Mounce, Matthew, p. 151).

Prayer:
Say to God that He is deserving of all your worship and pray to God, asking the Holy Spirit to help you to commit to Him totally and demonstrate it through your faith and works.

Questions:
What do you see as the significance of the people coming together on one accord telling Ezra the scribe to read the book of the Law of Moses?

Why is it important for Shiloh to be on one accord, of one mind, and of one purpose as we are “Remaining Remnant Ready”?

Where are you in the process of “Remaining Remnant Ready”?
