Service and Integrity
“And at the same time some were appointed over the rooms of the storehouse for the offerings, the first fruits, and the tithes, to gather into them from the fields of the cities the portions specified by the Law for the priests and Levites; for Judah rejoiced over the priests and Levites who ministered. Both the singers and the gatekeepers kept the charge of their God and the charge of the purification, according to the command of David and Solomon his son.” –Nehemiah 12:44-45 (NKJV)
vv. 44-45 Imagine a company’s annual report recognizing the guard who walks around the company grounds between 11 p.m. and 7a.m. That would not be the norm, would it? Why do you think we see some jobs as menial?
There’s a clever young person named Somebody Else, there’s nothing this person can’t do. He/she is busy from morning till way late at night, just substituting for you. You’re asked to do this or you’re asked to do that and what is your ready reply? Get somebody else to do that job, they’ll do it much better than I. So much to do in this weary old world- so much and workers so few, and somebody else, all weary and worn, is still substituting for you. The next time you’re asked to do something worthwhile, just give this ready reply: If Somebody Else can give time and support, my goodness, so can I! (Green, 2000, p. 331).
Pray that you will find true satisfaction in your work for the body of Christ.
1. How do you generally appreciate the support roles of the people in Shiloh?
2. Are you fulfilling a supporting role at Shiloh or are you a pew warmer?
