IMMUNIZATIONS

  • “Baby Shots” – if you have not updated your childhood immunizations as an adult that is strongly recommended (MMR, Polio, MCV4)
  • Some immunizations, especially the “baby shots” maybe available at your local health department at significantly reduced costs (many health insurance providers do not cover these costs for adults)
  • Recommended International Travel Immunizations – Typhoid, Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Diphtheria and Meningitis
  • Some immunizations are given in a series (Hepatitis); to insure proper coverage begin early
  • Multiple immunizations can be given at a single visit
  • Some local health departments will provide some international immunizations for residents; check first
  • Some international health service providers will give a discount if multiple persons come at the same time for shots; you may want to go as a group to maximize savings (Capitol Travel Medicine 1401 Wilson Blvd Suite 1007 Arlington, VA 22209 703.351.5100)
  • Malaria medication is required to travel to this area; most of our travelers have had success with Malarone; consult your physician for recommendations based on your individual situation
  • Your physician may suggest additional precautionary shots based upon your age and health condition (i.e. Flu shot, rabies)
  • The cost of any required or recommendation immunizations or precautionary actions are an individual expense and not covered in the cost of this travel
  • The good news is that once you have satisfied all of these immunizations, most will provide 7 - 10 years of coverage and you can travel almost anywhere in the world during that time!
