The Mentorship Program grew out
of the Men's Bible Class. We realize that there are a large number of
adolescent males who attend Shiloh Church and in our community with no
Spiritual male familial role model. Shiloh Baptist Church has been blessed to
include a large percentage of professional Men who are employed in a number of
successful careers. We saw the need for us to form a linkage between our adult
men and our young men to encourage and facilitate a Christian fellowship for
spiritual growth. The Mentorship program will provide a Christian and
culturally relevant forum for exploring issues of concern to young
African-American males. It will be an application of the Biblical concept of
mentorship wherein each generation passes on its experience and wisdom to the
next to work together to enlarge the kingdom of God. It will provide
opportunities for healthy bonding among youth and adult African-American males
who will serve as relevant Christian examples for the youth. Its mission is to
improve the lives of youth within Shiloh and in the Alexandria community. It
is a part of Shiloh's Community Service ministry. This will be another vehicle
for Shiloh to reach out and address the Alexandria community needs.
The main objective of the
Mentoring program is to encourage our youth to reach their highest potential
by developing their vision for their future through Christ. Our goal is to
begin by selecting 5 to 10 youth from our church and community and matching
them up with a suitable volunteer mentor. We are looking to add more youth as
we grow the program.
The current members of the
Mentorship program are Tyree Anderson, Reverend Robert Beard, Daryl Cooper,
Victor Fubler, Roy Walker, and Michael Wilson. We are currently looking for
more male volunteers to join us. Interested Adult Male volunteers should
