Happy New Year! 2018 is the year of New Beginnings!
This is a year of celebration! Shiloh Baptist Church is 155 years of age. In 1863, fifty former slaves established the Old Shiloh Society. In the wake of a country at war, God spoke to fifty free men who were once considered contraband and directed them to establish a church on the grounds where slaves were held until they were sold. It was a crossing over into the liberated life of those who knew Christ as Liberator—the One who freed them to forge a new path in America. So, they formed a new house of worship to honor their God and create a new experience in their country. As generations ask the question of our existence, Shiloh can stand tall and proud as a community that has covenanted with Jesus Christ to be a place of refuge in the world.
To help us celebrate what God has done we need your help. To commemorate our 155th Church Anniversary we are asking for a special offering. This year long offering will help ensure our financial stability. Our goal is to raise $155,000. We are asking that 155 members commit to giving $1,000 for the year above your tithes. This amounts to approximately $20 per week ($19.23) or $85 per month ($83.33) for 2018.
When you give, please note “Anniversary” or “155” on the special line of your offering envelope. If giving online or via our church app, please chose the 155 Church Anniversary Giving Type. Our desire is to keep track of your gifts so that we can alert you when we reach our goal of $155,000. Please contact our Financial Secretary Wanda Walker via email at email@example.com if you plan to participate or have any questions. We will have a special ceremony and commitment prayer Sunday, February 4, 2017, for those of you who chose to participate.
I pray that you will join us in this effort. Please know that as your Pastor I participate in the Anniversary Offering with you. Shiloh, you are continually in my thoughts and prayers. My hope is that that 2018 will be the year you experience the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Shiloh Baptist Church has been a lynchpin in the African American religious community of Alexandria for 155 years. Let us continue our legacy as we give unto God for the benefit of advancing His kingdom.
