"About Asher Moses said: "May Asher be the most blessed of the sons; may he be the most favored among his brothers and dip his foot in olive oil. May the bolts of your gate be iron and bronze, and your strength last as long as you live."(Deuteronomy 33:24-25)
Asher was the eight son of Jacob. His mother was Zilpah, Leah's maidservant. The other son by Zilpah was Gad. Leah named him Asher, saying, "Happy am I." (Genesis 30:13) Asher played a role in the plot to sell his brother Joseph into slavery.
Asher made the journey with Jacob and the family from Padan Aram to Canaan, and then later to Egypt. Asher and his four sons and daughter later settled in Egypt. Jacob blessed Asher on his deathbed saying: "From Asher will come the richest food; he will provide the king's delights." (Genesis 49:20)
Asher's banner (flag) had a color like a precious stone used by women for decoration. There was an olive tree drawn on it. His gem was aqua-marine. The background color of the window resembles the dark grey-green coloration of the olive tree. There is a olive tree itself, at the right side, a bird-like shaped oil vessel at the left bottom corner. The Menora (seven-branched candelabrum, one of the most sacred objects in the Sanctuary) was fed by pure olive oil, and therefore it appears at the bottom of the window. A cup used to feed the Menora with oil is, shown next to it from the right side. The dove with an olive branch in her beak, the eternal symbol of peace, is shown at the top.
Bread from Asher shall be rich, and he shall yield royal dainties. (Genesis 49:20-21)
